WORCESTER – An altercation between neighbors on Townsend Street led to one man being hospitalized for multiple stab wounds and another arrested on Saturday, Sept. 9.
Police responded to a report of a stabbing at around 1:35 PM. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a blood-covered 54-year-old. Steven Davitt, 39, of Worcester, was nearby holding a box cutter.
Police ordered Davitt to drop the weapon and took him into custody. First aid was rendered to the injured man until he was transported to a nearby hospital. His condition is serious but stable, and he is expected to recover.
According to the Worcester police Department, the preliminary investigations determined that the confrontation was not random and the two men are neighbors. The two reportedly have a history of disputes. On the day of the incident, a disagreement escalated, leading to the stab9ing.
Officers were informed that during the altercation another neighbor tried to intervene and was struck in the face with a piece of concrete, allegedly by Davitt.
Davitt faces multiple charges, including:
- Armed Assault to Murder;
- Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (box cutter);
- Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (rock); and
- Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (knife).
