LEOMINSTER – A local man appeared in Leominster District Court on Tuesday for arraignment on charges related to a crash that claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl in October.
Christopher Filz, 19, of Shirley, appeared for arraignment on charges of:
- Motor Vehicle Homicide by Reckless Operation;
- Motor Vehicle Homicide by Negligent Operation; and
- Speeding and Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
Massachusetts State Troopers responded to a rollover on I-190 northbound in Leominster at around 7 PM on Oct. 6. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered a 2001 Ford Mustang which had gone off the side of the road to the road, down an embankment, and rolled over.
Occupants of the Mustang included Filz and three passengers. One passenger, Krystal Mello, 16, of Ayer, died as a result of the crash.
A 16-year-old girl from Shirley and 16-year-old boy from Harvard were both transported to a Worcester hospital for treatment.
The judge in the case ordered Filz to have no contact with the family of the victim or other witnesses in the case, and continued the case until Jan. 5.
