In today’s edition – Monday, June 15 – there’s a meeting tonight on the design of the new Doherty High construction will shut down Madison Street overnight this week, access to Water St. from I-290 West will be closed off for several weeks, eight more restaurants have applied for outdoor dining permits in Worcester, and it’s National Smile Power Day!
Meeting Tonight to Discuss Doherty High Designs
The Doherty Memorial High School Building Committee [DMHSBC] will hear information from the Steering Committee on where schematic designs stand for the proposed school reconstruction.
The meeting is open to the public and the Steering Committee will take questions and comments from both the public and DMHSBC.

On June 29, the DMHSBC, will vote to allow the Steering Committee to send the Schematic Design Submission to the Massachusetts School Building Authority.
Madison St. Will be Blocked off Overnight this Week
Beginning tonight at 8 PM — and for each night following — Madison St. will be closed off at Southbridge St. overnight until 5 AM for construction work.
A crew will be milling existing pavement and then installing dense grade on Madison St. between Gold St. and Washington St.
Traffic will be directed down Green St. if traveling towards Kelley Sq.
Water St. I-290 W Exit Will be Closed for Several Weeks
Starting today, access to Water Street from the I-290 Westbound exit 14 off-ramp will be closed.
This closure will be in place weekdays, between 7 AM and 5 PM. This daytime restriction will continue for the next several weeks to allow utility work to take place.
Traffic will be directed as follows:
- Continue along the exit 14 off-ramp
- Turn right onto Harrison Street
- Take a right onto Water Street
8 More Businesses Apply for Temporary Outdoor Dining Permit
Joining the previous 44 businesses, seven more will go before the Worcester License Commission on Thursday, June 11.
Each business is applying for a temporary outdoor dining permit as part of the City’s Outdoor Dining Program.
The list includes:
- The Fix, 106 Grove Street
- Dirt McGirt’s, 1051 Main Street
- Buck’s Whisky & Burger Bar, 62 Green Street
- Texas Roadhouse, 535 Lincoln Street
- Wachusett Brewing Company, 152 Green Street
- Parkway Diner, 144-148 Shrewsbury Street
- Pho Dakao, 593 Park Avenue
- Stake’s Club, 1281 Pleasant Street
