Worcester Public Market Gets Capital Grant from State

Last week, the state’s Housing and Economic Development office awarded $5 million in capital grants to 30 communities under the Housing Choice Initiative.

According to the state, the  awards will provide support to “…high-impact, smaller-scale local capital improvement projects, including feasibility studies to plan medium- and long-term development, ADA accessibility improvements for town facilities, sewer capacity expansions, and other projects to enhance quality-of-life for residents.”

Among these capital grants is $249,682 awarded to the City of Worcester for street improvements “…around the Harding Green mixed-use development” — AKA the Worcester Public Market.

The money will be used for the resurfacing and line striping of Green St.  — which the state says “…will enhance safety economic activity, and quality of life by improving access to neighborhoods and commercial areas…and implement universal design to increase access for all.”

Harding Green is a mixed-used, four-story building with 48 rental units, a first floor diner and the Worcester Public Market.
