WORCESTER – A flash flood watch is in effect Tuesday afternoon through the evening in Worcester county and other areas in Massachusetts.

According to the National Weather Service [NWS], widespread showers and thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are expected in Worcester during the afternoon and evening with rainfall rates reaching or exceeding two inches in one hour.

The NWS says there is potential for urban flash flooding and flash flooding of small streams in the area.

A severe thunderstorm warning has also been issued for the Worcester area with the possibility of wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter size hail.
