AUBURN – Detectives in Auburn arrested an Amherst man on sex trafficking charges last week.
Auburn Detective engaged with a person who posted an online advertisement promoting prostitution early in the week. The detectives responded to the advertisement and arranged a meeting at a local hotel.
On Thursday, Sept. 12, detectives began surveillance at the hotel where the meeting would take place.
At around 6 PM, a woman the detectives had arranged the meeting with arrived at the hotel in a vehicle with a man.
When the woman exited the vehicle Auburn detectives intercepted her.
During a conversation with the woman, detectives discovered evidence that the female was the victim of sex trafficking conducted by the man.
Detective approached the man, Francisco Barros, 32, of Amherst, who moved inside the hotel. After questioning the man, the detectives arrested Barros on Sex Trafficking charges.
Barros has previous charges of armed assault to murder and firearms offenses that led to probation. The additional charge led to revocation of his probation. He remains in custody.
