Governor Charlie Baker’s office has announced further delays in processing unemployment claims to fight against fraud using stolen personal information.

The Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is implementing additional identity verification measures which may cause claimants to provide additional information.

According to the Governor’s office, data from previous nationwide breaches used to file a volume of illegitimate unemployment claims caused the need for additional measures.

Those claimants required to provide further information will experience a delay in their payments beginning.

Any individual who believes they may have had a false claim filed using their identity can report the activity on the state’s website.
