A heatwave is expected to hit the Worcester area Monday into Tuesday and the City of Worcester is advising all residents to take precautions to stay safe in extreme temperatures.
Here are some heat safety tips:
• Drink plenty of fluids (non-alcoholic), regardless of your activity level, to stay hydrated
• If possible, stay in an air-conditioned space
• Take a cool bath or shower to beat the heat
• Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing
• Avoid strenuous activities, and limit outdoor activities to morning or evening hours
• Never leave people or pets alone in a closed, parked vehicle
• Check on your friends, neighbors and relatives
• When outside, find shade and take frequent rests
• Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses and by putting on sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher.
• Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke
