WORCESTER – A Worcester County Grand Jury indicted a teen for murder in state court this week in connection with an April shooting on Paine Street in Worcester. The office of Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early Jr. announced the indictment on Thursday, January 2.
Worcester Police officers responded to a report of a car crashing into a house on Paine Street at around 9 PM on April 30. Upon arriving at the scene, officers located Eathan Renteria, 19, of Worcester, suffering from a gunshot wound inside of his vehicle.
Police arrested Kayden Keane Hoffler, 17, of Worcester, on May 8 on charges of Armed Assault to Murder and firearms charges in juvenile court.
Renteria spent about three weeks in the hospital before he died on May 16.
After Renteria’s death, the charges were upgraded to Murder. Hoffler appeared in Worcester District Court for arraignment on a murder charge On October 1.
The indictment moves the case to Massachusetts Superior Court. Early’s office says it expects arraignment in superior court on Monday, January 13.
