WORCESTER – Holy Cross will host three of the top teams in college hockey in the 2021 Ice Breaker Tournament to kick off the 2021-2022 season.

The tournament will bring Quinnipiac University, Northeastern University, and Boston College to the Hart Center Rink at the Luth Athletic Complex in the traditional kick-off event for all of NCAA Division I Men’s Hockey on Friday, October 8 and Saturday, October 9.

Boston College currently sits atop the nation ranking in the No.1 spot, with Quinnipiac and Northeastern coming in at No. 11 and 18, respectively. As rankings sit now, Holy Cross will face Boston College and Northeastern in the predetermined format tournament.

The tournament was last in Massachusetts at Boston University in 2008. Holy Cross last played in the Ice Breaker in 2010 in St. Louis with Boston University, Notre Dame and Wisconsin.

College Hockey Inc. and the Hockey Commissioners Association, which selected Holy Cross to host, will co-produce the event with the College.

The last four hosts of the Ice Breaker Tournament were Bowling Green (KY), Mercyhurst (PA), Minnesota Duluth, and Denver.

NCAA officials cancelled the 2020 Ice Breaker in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
