Hudson Man Arrested in Worcester After Attempted Kidnapping

WORCESTER – Worcester Police responded to the area of Endicott St. and Vernon St. on Sunday, October 18, around 8 PM, in response to a report of an attempted kidnapping.

According to Worcester Police, the investigation revealed that a man approached an 11-year-old girl and asked if she wanted to see his dog.

The suspect was also with another male whose identity is unknown.

The man, later identified as Andrew Merriam, 51, of Hudson, is alleged to have grabbed the girl and prevented her from leaving.

After several attempts to break away from the man, the girl was able to escape into a nearby business after kicking Merriam. She was not injured during the incident.

After police obtained a description of the attacker from the girl, Merriam was located walking down Vernon St. toward Kelley Square.

The second male at the scene was not located.

Merriam faces charges of:

  • Enticing a Child
  • Attempt to Commit a Crime
  • Assault and Battery
