WORCESTER – A 37-year-old Worcester man was arrested on Monday afternoon, Sept. 16, for the attempted kidnapping of a juvenile female.

According to the Worcester Police Department [WPD], officers were dispatched to the area of 582 West Boylston St. around 2:20 PM for a report of a suspicious male trying to get an unwilling female into his vehicle.

When officers arrived, they found Jose Palau, of Worcester, waiting outside.

Palau was approached by an officer and got extremely confrontational and aggressive with the officer. He made several inappropriate gestures and lewd comments to the officer.

When a juvenile female stepped out of the restaurant to get the attention of officers, Palau exclaimed “That’s my girl!”

After speaking with the juvenile female, officers were led to believe that  Palau saw the female get off the school bus near King Philip Road and followed her on foot while aggressively calling to her.

When the female began picking up her pace, Palau approached her and tried to grab her. He then walked up to a vehicle and told the female to get in the vehicle with him. He again tried to grab her and she continued to pull away from him.

Palau insisted that the victim’s mother had sent him to pick her up. She ran into the business and waited for police to arrive.

The victim had never seen Palau before.

Palau is charged with Attempted Kidnapping, Accosting Someone of the Opposite Sex, Assault, and a Lewd and Lascivious Act. He was placed under arrest and will be arraigned in Worcester District Court.
