Leicester Man Arrested for Assault with a Knife in Dudley

DUDLEY – A judge denied bail to a local man on Thursday, October 7, when arraignment in Dudley District Court in connection with an assault with a knife in Dudley.

Dudley Police responded to a report of an assault with a knife on Tuesday, October 5, just before 11 PM.

When officers arrived at a home on Dudley-Southbridge Road t o investigate the report, they found a 19-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man. The man suffered suffered what appeared to be knife wounds to his face, neck, chest, and arm. Dudley Police report the man’s last known condition was stable.

According to Dudley Police, the investigation showed that both were asleep in bed when the father of the woman, Jeffrey Sprague, 40, of Leicester, entered the residence without permission or the knowledge of the two residents.

The woman woke up and found Sprague standing over the man in bed when Sprague allegedly stabbed the man several times. The woman intervened and the assault stopped. Sprague then left the residence on foot.

Police did not locate Sprague in a search of the area. Police then sought a warrant for Sprague’s arrest.

Around 8:20 AM on Thursday, October 7, Sprague was reportedly seen riding a bicycle on Mill Road in Dudley. Police located Sprague at the Big Y Plaza in Southbridge by Massachusetts State Troopers and Southbridge Police and taken into custody.

Sprague faces charges of:

  • Attempted murder
  • Assault and Battery with dangerous weapon (knife)
  • Home invasion
  • Breaking and Entering in the Nighttime for a Felony

Sprague was denied bail when arraigned on Thursday.
