A new study by Wallethub.com finds that Massachusetts is the fifth best state for teen drivers.

The study analyzed 23 key metrics to determine an overall score on a 100 point scale for each state. The study scored Massachusetts at 57.85 out of 100.
Within the individual metrics considered, Massachusetts ranked as follows in some key areas:
- 1st – Presence of Distracted-Driving/Texting-While-Driving Laws
- 2nd – Teen DUIs per 100,000 Teens
- 3rd – Teen Driver Fatalities per 100,000 Teens
- 3rd – Provision of Teen Driver’s Graduated Licensing Program Laws
- 12th – Vehicle Miles Traveled per Capita
- 19th – Premium Increase After Adding Teen Driver to Parent’s Policy
- 22nd – Avg. Cost of Car Repairs
- 28th – Presence of Occupant-Protection Laws
Despite the high ranking of Massachusetts, two states in and around New England finished with a higher overall score.
