Massachusetts Named 2022’s ‘Best State to Live In’

The personal-finance and data experts at WalletHub released their report on 2022’s Best States to Live in, ranking Massachusetts #1 overall.

WalletHub compared the 50 states across 52 key indicators of livability, ranging from housing costs and income growth to education rate and quality of hospitals.

The annual report ranks Massachusetts in the top 10 in economy, education and health, quality of life, and safety.

Robert J.S. Ross, professor of Sociology at Clark University in Worcester, is listed as an expert in the report and shares his opinions on what people should look for in an area before moving, the financial factors before deciding on where to live, how state policy makers can attract and retain residents and more. 

Living Conditions in Massachusetts (1=Best; 25=Avg.):

  • 7th – % of Population in Poverty
  • 9th – Income Growth
  • 1st – % of Insured Population
  • 8th – % of Adults in Fair or Poor Health
  • 5th – Avg. Weekly Work Hours
  • 9th – Restaurants per Capita
  • 6th – Percentage of Residents 12+ Who Are Fully Vaccinated
