Massachusetts Among States Least Dependent on Gun Industry

Massachusetts has been ranked among the states least dependent on the gun industry, according to a new report from the data experts at Wallethub.

The report — 2019’s States Most & Least Dependent on the Gun Industry — ranks Massachusetts #47 overall among the 50 states and assigns individual rankings for the state in the firearms industry (#36), gun prevalence (#47) and gun politics (#46).

According to Wallethub, gun sales are in decline since President Donald Trump took office and with new gun laws taking effect this year such as a federal ban on “bump stocks,” the data company created the report to determine the states that depend most heavily on the arms and ammunitions industry both directly for jobs and political contributions and indirectly through firearm ownership,
