The Massachusetts Department of Transportation [MassDOT] has issued an advisory reminding the public that Monday, January 18, is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and state government offices will be closed including the Registry of Motor Vehicles Customer Service Center locations.

MassDOT is encouraging anyone traveling on Monday to keep an eye out on roadway and weather conditions, to plan ahead and to check on MBTA schedules.

Most important, MassDOT asks all travelers to remember COVID-19 protocols and procedures, like wearing a face covering and maintaining social distancing, and to follow quarantine travel guidelines.

“We are encouraging members of the public who are planning to travel around Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to plan ahead, use available traffic and weather resources and tools and be familiar with current COVID guidelines before you leave home,” said Highway Administrator Jonathan Gulliver. “COVID guidance is readily available to help inform travelers of potential impacts and current restrictions that are in place to help keep everyone healthy and safe during this challenging time.”

The MBTA has announced the following schedule information for Monday, January 18:

  • Subways, buses, and The RIDE will operate on a Saturday schedule.
  • Commuter Rail and ferry service will operate on a weekday schedule.
  • More information can be found by viewing the full MBTA holiday schedule.
