ATHOL – Congressman Jim McGovern announced in Athol today that he had secured $1 million in federal funding for an affordable housing project.
The NewVue Communities Riverbend-Bigelow Schools Project, which is planned for 53 units of affordable housing, was funded as part of the omnibus appropriations bill that passed the House and Senate in December and was signed by President Joe Biden.
The housing project will preserve the historic school and add a new building designed for seniors. When completed, the project will provide 20 one-bedroom units, 24 with two bedrooms, and nine three-bedrooms.
The location will also feature communal garden plots and recreation spaces.
