WORCESTER – A new women-owned bar will open its doors this week on Worcester’s Restaurant Row with a ribbon-cutting ceremony

The Medusa’s Saloon — 274 Shrewsbury St. — will take over the space previously occupied by Frank’s bar and will turn the location — which has been some kind of sports bar for nearly a decade — on its head.

Co-owned by Monte Snellenberger and Penny Marston, The Medusa’s Saloon will feature vibrant decor, live music and an extensive drink list — with their most important clientele in mind, women.

“As a destination spot in the city of Worcester, Shrewsbury Street has a strong history of bar and restaurant success.  There has been a ‘glow-up’ in this neighborhood, with increasingly sophisticated, modern and elevated bar and restaurant experiences and we saw an opportunity here,” said Snellenberger.  “We are catering to women and their comfort in a bar setting. Focusing on quality and service while honoring the spirit of a lively, fun night out is an important part of our mission.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony in partnership with the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce will take place on Friday, April 26 and will begin at 4:30 PM with Saloon doors opening to the public at 5 PM and complimentary appetizers until 6 PM.

The pair hope to combine a “misfit spirit” with the “beauty, power and fierce self-determination” of Medusa to create a unique experience for Shrewsbury Street.

The Medusa’s Saloon will be the first professional partnership for Snellenberger and Marston, who have been friends since they met as undergraduate students at Mount Holyoke College.  For the past 20 years, Snellenberger was a Healthcare IT professional, while Marston worked in the nonprofit sector.

“We met 25 years ago and have remained friends ever since, throughout the birth of children, relationships, and career changes; and this is our first venture together,” said Marston. “The time had finally come for us to be ‘unbossed’ and build our own business.  We are fortunate that our friends and families hold great talent and treasure, contributing support as consultants, advisors, and getting hands-on to help us build this place that we love.”

Hours of operation for the bar are Sunday thru Wednesday 4 PM to 12 PM, and Thursday thru Saturday 4 PM to 2 AM.

The Medusa’s Saloon is located at 274 Shrewsbury Street, and is open to the public at 5 PM on Friday, April 26. For more information, check out: http://themedusassaloon.com.
