Leominster Man Arrested in Worcester on Gun Charges

WORCESTER – Officers responded to Green Street for a report of a person with a firearm around 1:45 AM on Sunday, January 23.

After arriving on the scene, officers received reports that a dispute turned into a firearm being drawn. Officers also learned the man with the firearm left the scene in a White Mercedes with dark tinted windows.

Around 2 AM, an officer saw a vehicle on Park Avenue meeting the description of the Mercedes. The vehicle increased speed upon the officer pulling behind the car. The vehicle turned onto Beaver Brook Parkway, Spaulding Street and onto Vineyard Street. According to the Worcester Police Department, the vehicle then slowed down. The officer saw an item ejected from the passenger side window.

The vehicle stopped, and officers removed the occupants. Officers also determined the object thrown from the vehicle was a loaded handgun with a high capacity magazine.

The driver, Steven Melecio, 26, of Leominster, does not have a license to carry firearms. He faces charges of:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
  • Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card

The incident on Green Street remains under investigation.
