WORCESTER – Worcester police arrested two men while allegedly stealing items from the shed of a housing complex near Goldthwaite Rd. on Saturday, March 6.
Police arrived at the residence after a report of two men with a white van taking a snow blower around 6:15 PM.
Officers observed Wilfredo Crespo-Morales, 34, of Webster, walk to the van carrying what appeared to be a car jack. Pedro Rigney, 47, of Worcester, was already in the van. When Rigney saw officers, he began walking toward nearby woods before police detained him.
Crespo-Morales started the van and began driving at a high rate of speed, before soon crashing into a snowbank and becoming stuck. He then ran toward Corning Ave. with an officer in pursuit.
Crespo-Morales was soon spotted hiding under a deck at a Beverly St. residence. When the officer spotted him, he rushed the officer. Crespo-Morales attempted to draw the officer’s baton during the confrontation. When assistance from other officers arrived, he attempted to kick and punch them before being detained.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the two men used a rope chained to the van to pull the door from the shed.
Officers determined the van used by the two men was reported stolen from Washington St. on Thursday, March 4.
