WORCESTER – If you love making music, listening to music, or both, plan on making Worcester your weekend destination.

This Friday, June 21, is Make Music Day Worcester, a free day of music held annually on the summer solstice.  Different from traditional music festivals, Make Music Day Worcester is open to anyone who wants to participate. Every kind of musician, from every musical persuasion, will fill our city spaces — streets, parks, plazas, public and private venues — to share their music.

Everyone is invited to join the celebration by attending the free concerts and programs.  Folk and soul rocker Luke DeRoy kicks-off the event at the Worcester Common Oval Stage, Linda Davis will be giving Ukulele lessons from 3 PM – 3:30 PM at Coes Pond Park, and Acoustic Mayhem with Matt & Marty is at WooBerry from 12 PM – 2 PM.

On Saturday, June 22, the Central Mass Jazz Festival is being held at Christoforo Columbus Park in Worcester.  A community collaborative effort to support WCCA TV community programming, classes, and workshops, this event is free and open to everyone. The event will feature some of the areas best Jazz musicians, including renowned vocalist Jim Porcella, Emmy Award winning pianist Mike Renzi, and Brazilian Jazz pop artist Fernando Holz, to name a few. International celebrity jazz acts, up and coming youth artists, and an educational component that will enlighten jazz enthusiasts, are also planned.

In addition, there will be craft and food vendors, a paint to the music mural activity led by ArtReach, and origami with the Worcester Art Museum. Admission to the festival is free, however a non-perishable donation for the Worcester County Food Bank will be greatly appreciated.
