BOSTON – Governor Maura Healey announced on Veterans Day, Monday Nov. 11, that a new program will provide a $2,000 tax credit to businesses in Massachusetts that hire active members of the National Guard.
Businesses with 100 or fewer employees and employ active Massachusetts National Guard members for at least six months are eligible for the tax credit. The program intends to supoprt job security for National Guard members who often spend time away for military duties.
The Massachusetts Legislature passed the tax credit within legislation adopted in its last session.
“Massachusetts is home to so many talented, dedicated service members, and there are employers across the state who want to hire them,” said Governor Maura Healey. “The National Guard Hiring Tax Credit Initiative will increase employment opportunities for our National Guard members and also encourage more businesses to hire and retain them by offering financial support.
The Executive Office of Economic Development (EOED) and Department of Revenue provides the National Guard Hiring Tax Credit. Applications for businesses to paricipate in the program are open.
Healey’s administration recently announced a $2,500 tax credit to small business owners that hire qualified veterans. The administration also launched the Veterans Equity Dashboard which shows data related to veterans in the labor market in Massachusetts.
