WORCESTER – National Library Week kicks off on Sunday, April 7 and the Worcester Public Library [WPL] has a week full of community programs and a survey to help the library plan for the future.
National Library Week, April 7 to 13, is an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians and library workers play in transforming lives and communities.

“The library helps lead our community by advocating for widespread access to crucial services and lifelong learning,” said WPL Head Librarian Geoffrey Dickinson. “Libraries level the playing field for people of any age who seek information and access to technologies to improve their quality of life.”
Along with its annual survey, the WPl is celebrating National Library Week with community readers, a library card help desk, a “What brings you to the library today” display, and a book exhibit.
Community readers include Tim Garvin of the United Way of Central Massachusetts; Timothy Loew of the Worcester Public Library Foundation Board of Trustees; Stephanie Pasha, President of the Worcester Public Library Board of Directors; and District 5 City Councilor Matthew Wally.
The Main Library will also be hosting a special exhibit with favorite books chosen by community leaders. This display includes Senator Harriette Chandler; Senator Michael Moore; Mayor Joseph Petty; and Matilde Castiel, MD, Commissioner of Health and Human Services.
The Library Express mobile libraries “Libby” and “Lilly” will also be on the road next week in honor of National Bookmobile Day on Wednesday, April 10.
The Worcester Public Library joins libraries of all types in celebrating the many ways libraries build strong communities by providing critical resources, programs and expertise.
