NORTHBOROUGH – Law enforcement officials arrested a local registered nurse on Monday, April 5, in a case involving tampering with morphine prescribed to nursing home resident in her care.
Gwen Rider, 41, of Northborough, faces an indictment on charges of tampering with a consumer product and obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and deception.
The indictment alleges that while on duty in a unit for patients with dementia, Rider tampered morphine sulfate prescribed to patients by removing some from the bottle and tampering with the remaining supply.
The indictment alleges the incident took place during a shift that started at 11 PM on November 6, 2020.
The charge of tampering with a consumer product provides for a sentence up to 10 years in prison.
The charge of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and deception provides for a sentence of up to four years in prison.
