STURBRIDGE – A Massachusetts State Trooper was conducting a routine check of a rest area on the westbound side of I-84 in Sturbridge on Monday, May 25, when he identified a parked GMC Denali. The vehicle had a temporary registration from Missouri which had expired.
Justin Barron, 39, from Heavaner, Oklahoma, was driving the vehicle with a female passenger.
During the investigation the Trooper found a .40 caliber Springfield XD pistol and a Smith & Wesson M&P rifle. He also had ammunition for both weapons.
Barron does not have a license to carry firearms in Massachusetts.
The Trooper also located a pipe with methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia in Barron’s possession.
The Trooper did not file any charges against the passenger.
Barron faces several weapons and drug charges.

- Assault weapon, sell/possess
- Improper storage of a firearm
- Possession of a large capacity weapon or feeding device
- Possession of a large capacity weapon or feeding device
- Possession of a large capacity weapon or feeding device
- Possession of ammunition without FID card
- Possession of Class B drug
- Unregistered motor vehicle
Bail was set at $15,040. Barron’s arraignment was scheduled to be held at Dudley District Court.
