This old grumbly fan is very happy that my game one prediction was SPOT ON BABY!!! In my Red Sox Yankees preview I predicted a 3-1 Red Sox win and an Aroldis Chapman save!
The Red Sox took down their storied rivals in the Bronx in Game one of the Wild Card Series by a score of 3-1.
The pitching matchup between Garett Crochet and Max Fried lived up to the hype. Crochet gave the Sox 7.2 innings and allowed just 1 run over 4 hits, with 0 walks and 11 strikeouts. Max Fried kept the Sox scoreless through 6.1 innings, giving up 4 hits with 5 walks and 6 strikeouts.
After Fried got an out n the top of the 7th inning, Luke Weaver took the mound for the Yankees. He took the loss after allowing a two-run pinch-hit single to Masataka Yoshida.
Trevor Story, who singled and stole second in the ninth, scored pm an Alex Bregman double in the top of the ninth. This was Bregman’s biggest moment in his first season with the Red Sox after eight straight postseasons with the Astros.
Aroldis Chapman, former Yankee closer, made it a nailbiter in the bottom of the ninth, giving up three straight singles to start, loading the bases for the Yankees. Chapman closed the door with a pop up and two strikeouts to end the game.
Game 2 is in NY on Wednesday at 6:08
Bryan Bello is slated to start for the Red Sox
Carlos Rodón is on the bump for the Yankees
