This Saturday, March 30 — almost a year from announcing it’s strategic plan for “framing the future” —  ArtsWorcester will host its first gallery exhibit, Paperphilia, at the Printers Building at 44 Portland Street, Worcester.

All are invited as they turn the page on their history as a community organization, to their future as an established arts foundation.

Under the guidance of ArtsWorcester Executive Director Juliet Feibel, the move from Main Street to Portland Street appears seamless, and has already elevated the urban landscape of what is now becoming Worcester’s creative district.  With roughly 1,800 square feet of space, the West Gallery boasts a wall of floor to ceiling windows, creating a street gallery that will share artists work with the community. A private entrance to welcome visitors from the outside, and an expansive interior entrance, allows guests a different view of the East Gallery, and a look into the West Gallery through open space that will also showcase artwork.  Architecture that melds together the sleek feel of new construction with the timeless details of a historical building, the permanent home of ArtsWorcester is absolutely stunning.

As promised in the strategic plan, ArtsWorcester will now have dedicated space for performance, art talks, and creative education experiences, in addition to more opportunities for artist and members to exhibit.

Paperphilia, juried by Nancy Burns, Associate Curator of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs at the Worcester Art Museum, includes 58 unique works saluting the many possibilities of paper, and it’s themed connection to the printing history of the building.

The first exhibition in the new ArtsWorcester galleries, this is the “soft” opening of the new facility, inviting members, donors, and the public to be part of this exciting moment in the organizations history. When attending the reception visitors may find some last-minute details still under construction, however the light and feel of the space, and the artists diverse interpretations of works on paper, made with paper, and their idea of paper, will more than convey the sense of creativity, community, and home — yes home — that ArtsWorcester provides for so many artists throughout New England, and has established here on Portland Street.

The “soft” opening for Paperphilia is Saturday, March 30 from 12-3pm, in the Printers Building at 44 Portland Street, Worcester.

There will be a formal opening of the galleries on May 2, with the 18th Annual Biennial Show.
