WORCESTER – A woman received a life sentence in Worcester Superior Court on Friday, after pleading guilty to the second-degree murder of her daughter in 2018.
Judge Daniel Wenn sentenced Shana Pedroso, 41, of Fitchburg, to serve life in prison for the killing of her 6-year-old daughter. Pedroso will not be eligible for parole for 25 years. The sentence includes a 5-year probation term with the condition she have no contact with the surviving victim, her 9-year-old son.
Fitchburg Police responded to Stoneybrook Road in Fitchburg on April 10, 2018. The 6-year-old girl was found unresponsive and transported to UMass Memorial HealthAlliance in Leominster, where she was pronounced dead. The 9-year-old boy was transported with serious injuries.
The Office of the Medical Examiner concluded the 6=year-old girl died from blunt force trauma and ruled the death a homicide. The 9-year-old boy had injuries consistent with physical abuse.
Marvin Brito, Pedroso’s husband, was sentenced to eight years in prison in December after pleading guilty to manslaughter, permitting substantial injury to a child and reckless endangerment of a child in connection with the girl’s death and the boy’s injuries.
