WORCESTER – A fire early Thursday morning left 300 to 400 residents of 120 apartments of the Plumley Village High Rise, at 16 Laurel St. in Worcester, seeking temporary housing.

Firefighters from the Worcester Fire Department arrived at Plumley Village at around 3:45 AM and extinguished the fire. The fire originated in an electrical room of the building and causes significant damage to the electrical system of the building.

Due to the damage, all residents are being relocated. The Worcester Division of Emergency Management and the office of the Acting City Manager Eric Batista’s office are working with management at Plumley Village to find temporary lodging.

The time frame for restoring power to the building is currently unknown. Batista’s office says they are working in collaboration with the Division of Inspectional Services and National Grid on coordinating repairs.
