WORCESTER – Worcester police officers arrested a man Wednesday evening at the Lincoln Village pool house on Country Club Boulevard for attempting to stab a 17-year-old male lifeguard and swinging a baseball bat at a 15-year-old female lifeguard.
According to the Worcester Police Department [WPD], officers were dispatched to the area around 5:35 PM. Witnesses told police a group of youth were not listening to the lifeguards at the pool and were asked to leave.
The father of the youth, 42-year-old Carlos Betancourt of Liberty Street in Worcester, went into the pool house and began verbally arguing with the lifeguard. He took out a knife and swung it at a male lifeguard.
The lifeguard was not touched by the knife, but Betancourt went back to his vehicle to get a baseball bat. He returned to the pool house and swung the bat at the female lifeguard, but again missed. He used the bat to the smash the glass door of the pool house and then fled the scene.
Betancourt was located at a Liberty Street address and was placed under arrest. He is charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Knife,) Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Bat) and Vandalism. He will be arraigned in court.
