WORCESTER – On Tuesday, Sept. 12, eight candidates will make a play for Worcester’s District 1 and District 5 City Council seats in a preliminary election.

There are four candidates running for each council seat. The two candidates from each district with the most votes in next week’s preliminary election will move onto the municipal election in November.

ThisWeekinWorcester was able to interview each candidate and over the next four days, we will introduce our readers to all eight candidates — one candidate from each district per day — with an in-depth profile on their lives, family, careers and why they believe they’re the right fit for the job.

Here is the schedule of candidate profiles:

District 1 Candidates

Bill Coleman – Tuesday, Sept. 5

Sean Rose – Wednesday, Sept. 6

Gerardo Schiano – Thursday, Sept. 7

Ed Moynihan – Friday, Sept. 8

District 5 Candidates

Matthew Wally – Tuesday, Sept. 5

Paul Franco – Wednesday, Sept. 6

Doug Arbetter – Thursday, Sept. 7

Benjamin Champagne – Friday, Sept. 8

Voting in the preliminary election is for Worcester residents living in District 1 or 5 only. Polls will be open from 7 AM to 8 PM. If you’re unsure of where to vote, please visit the City of Worcester Voter Search.

The last day to register to vote for Worcester’s municipal election is Wednesday, October 18. To register, visit the Massachusetts Online Voter Registration.
