NORTHBOROUGH – Massachusetts State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a Leicester man on Route 290 in Northborough that occurred around 9 AM on Monday, May 22.
Troopers responded to the eastbound side of Route 290 at exit 30A, which is for Hudson Street in Northborough. Upon arrival they located 2007 Jeep Wrangler had crashed into the tree line in the area.
According to the Massachusetts State Police, the preliminary investigation indicates the Wrangler was taking Exit 30 A and exited the left side of the exit, striking several trees. The reason the vehicle left the roadway remains under investigation.
The driver, Elijah Pye, 20, of Cherry Valley, was removed from the vehicle and transported to UMass Memorial Hospital. He later died as a result of his injuries.
The single passenger in the vehicle, another 20-year-old male also from Cherry Valley, was transported to UMass Memorial with serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
Along with Massachusetts State Police, the Northborough Fire Department responded and provided assistance at the scene on Monday.
