Among the 50 states in America, Massachusetts ranks among the least stressful states in the country — #48 in terms of overall stress — and is home to the lowest work-related stress in the U.S., according to a new report from the data experts at Wallethub.
The report — 2019’s Most & Least Stressed States — compared all 50 states across 40 indicators — including average hours worked per week to personal bankruptcy rate to percentage of adults getting enough sleep.
In terms of work-related stress, Massachusetts ranks less stressful than Utah (#49), Idaho (#48), Montana (#47), and Oregon (#46).

Across the board, Massachusetts ranks among the five least stressful states for work-related stress (#50) and health and safety-related stress (#46), and in the ten least stressful states for money-related and family-related stress (both #40).
Massachusetts also ranks in the top five states for the fewest average hours worked per week, the highest job security rate and the most psychologists per capita.

Additionally, Massachusetts is the least stressful state in New England. The Bay State is less stressful than Rhode Island (#23), Maine (#29), Connecticut (#30), Vermont (#36) and New Hampshire (#44).
