In a study of more than 500 of the largest cities in America, the data experts at Wallethub ranked Worcester among the most diverse cities across the United States.

Comparing 501 U.S. cities across three key indicators of cultural diversity —  ethnicity and race, language and birthplace — Worcester ranked #77 in Wallethub’s report 2018’s Most & Least Ethnically Diverse Cities in the U.S.

Among mid-sized cities, Worcester ranked #31 of 145 cities studied.

According to the report, linguistic diversity played a major role in Worcester’s high ranking. Linguistic diversity is defined by the report as a high percentage of the population speaking languages other than English or Spanish.

Worcester ranked only behind Cambridge, Brockton, Lowell and Boston among Massachusetts cities. To see how Worcester compared to other cities across the U.S., see the map below.
