AUBURN – A road rage incident on the Mass Pike in Auburn on Sunday night resulted in an arrest.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, troopers received the report of the incident around 9 PM from the 22-year-old operator of a 2011 BMW 328. He and his passenger, a 23-year-old woman, were struck by the knife, causing minor injuries.

Sergeant Dave Pinkham was able to locate the suspect vehicle, a 2015 Jeep Wrangler, and effected a motor vehicle stop on I-90 Westbound in Auburn.

Police believe the incident started when one vehicle cut off another and then escalated from there — with flashing of headlights, an exchange of hand gestures and “brake jobs” before Garrey threw the knife into the open window of the BMW.

Garrey was placed under arrest and charged with the following offenses:

  1. Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (2 counts)
  2. Negligent operation of a motor vehicle
  3. Following too closely
  4. Throwing an object on a highway
  5. Failure to use care and caution

Garrey was released on $500.00 bail and will be arraigned at a later date in Worcester District Court.
