WORCESTER – The office of City Manager Eric Batista announced on Wednesday the appointment of Stephen S. Rolle, the current Commissioner of the Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM), to the Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) Advisory Board.
Rolle’s appointment fills the vacancy left by Gary Rosen, the board’s recent chairperson and city representative.
Rolle joined the city in 2014 as director for the Division of Planning and Regulatory Services. In 2022, Batista named him Commissioner of DTM. which is responsible for planning and implementing enhancements to the city’s streets and transportation infrastructure.
“My goal is to ensure that public transportation remains a viable option for everyone,” said Rolle. “Elevating and widening the reach of public transport will be a cornerstone of Worcester’s mobility plans in the upcoming years.”
Rosen, who previously served as an At-Large City Councilor, was designated as the city’s representative on the WRTA Advisory board by former City Manager Edward M. Augustus Jr. in January 2020. Throughout his tenure, Rosen was a staunch proponent of fare-free services.
“I am pleased to bring Commissioner Rolle onboard with the WRTA Advisory Board. His depth of expertise in transportation, combined with the pivotal role of the DTM in framing Worcester’s transportation system, makes him an invaluable addition,” Batista remarked. He also took a moment to appreciate Rosen, stating, “Gary’s commitment as an advocate for the riders has been commendable, and I thank him for his years of dedicated service.”
