WORCESTER – Residents filled the Worcester City Common on Saturday afternoon for the annual Worcester Winter Festival presented by the Downtown Worcester Business Improvement District and Perrone Landscaping.

The event lasted for nearly three hours and included a number of winter time activities like curling, ice sculpturing and ice skating at the Worcester Common Oval rink, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.

The Worcester Community Fridges were also in attendance to collect non-perishable food donations to stock their community pantry. The first 100 people to donate food also received a free hot cocoa from the Worcester Beer Garden.

“It was great seeing so many people giving back to help their community,” Worcester Community Fridges volunteer Maria Ravelli told ThisWeekinWorcester.com.  “We had person after person come up with food to ask what else they could do to help. That’s the best part about having donation drives like this, it isn’t just people helping their neighbors but everyone coming together in the process.”
