WORCESTER – A welfare check led to the arrest of a local man on warrants and drug charges.

Officers performing a welfare check on Eliot Street on Wednesday, July 3, discovered a man who appeared to be sleeping behind the wheel of a vehicle while it was running at around 10 AM.

Officers removed the keys from the vehicle and woke the man, later identified as Torrance Shannon Jr., 26, of Worcester.

According to the Worcester Police Department, Shannon ignored instructions from the officers to exit the vehicle. He also allegedly moved his hands out of sight.

Officers eventually removed Shannon from the vehicle. Police say the officers discovered five baggies containing cocaine and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

Police arrested Shannon for three outstanding warrants, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class B Substance, Resisting Arrest, and Operating without a License.
