WORCESTER – Showcase Cinemas confirmed its Showcase Cinemas North theater on Brooks St. in Worcester will not reopen and is “under contract to be sold.”

The statement confirming the permanent closure was given by Mark Malinowski, Vice President of Global Marketing for Showcase Cinemas, to Spectrum News 1

The theater closed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 and did not reopen when permitted, with capacity restrictions.

Industrial Yards, a commercial real estate company based in Astoria, NY, listed the property for lease on June 4. The listing highlights a secure lot for parking and outdoor storage. It also says that plans to demolish the building would create space for 578 truck parking stalls.

According to the listing, the property is a 751,410 square foot lot with the former movie theater building sitting on 95,770 square feet of the lot.

The 2021 property assessment lists the property at $6.8 million, with the land assessed at $2.4 million.

Brooks Street Realty Corp., based in Norwood, purchased the property in 1993. The building that housed the theater was built in 1996.
