WORCESTER – The City of Worcester asked motorists to avoid the Shrewsbury Street area on Wednesday after a break in a water main closed westbound lanes between Hill Street and Mulberry Street.
The Department of Public Works and Parks worked to repair the break and shut down the water main on Shrewsbury Street from Washington Square to East Worcester Street to facility repairs.
Residents at Mount Carmel Apartments, Leo Turo Way, and businesses at 56 to 72 Shrewsbury Street didn’t have water service until the repair was complete.
Shortly before 11 AM on Wednesday, a Worcester DPW&P dump truck fell into the hole used to access the water main for repairs. What affect the truck will have on efforts to repair the water main is unclear.
