SHREWSBURY – The Shrewsbury Police Department announced on Monday that it will provide additional enforcement of seat belt violations in May as part of the National Highway Safety Administration’s (NTHSA) “Click it or Ticket” campaign.
Additional officers will by added to the normal contingent of Shrewsbury Police officers on patrol in May. These additional officers will have the sold focus of traffic enforcement.
According to a study by the NHTSA, 23,824 people lost their lives in automobile accidents in 2020. O those deaths, 51 percent were not wearing seat belts, as were 60 percent of fatalities of passengers in the back seat vehicles.
The additional patrols is funded by grants from Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, Office of Grants and Research (OGR). The Shrewsbury Police Department plans six of these campaigns this year.
