STURBRIDGE – Early this morning, a crash on Rt. 49 in Sturbridge resulted in the death of a 50-year-old Spencer woman.
According to the Massachusetts State Police, around 7:20 AM troopers responded to the intersection of Rt. 49 and Putnam Rd. Trooper Scott Shea determined that the woman was driving a 2008 Buick Lacrosse travelling westbound on Putnam Rd. When she was pulling out to go southbound on Rt. 49, she pulled directly in front of a tractor-trailer car carrier driven by a 54-year-old Manchester, NH man.
The woman was determined to be deceased at the scene. The tractor-trailer operator sustained non-life threatening injuries and was brought to Harrington Hospital. The name of the deceased woman will be released when family is notified.
The remaining facts and circumstances of the crash are currently under investigation by troopers from the Sturbridge Barracks. Troop C Headquarters, State Police Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS), State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS), State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section (CMVES), Sturbridge Police, Sturbridge Fire Department, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MADOT) all assisted on scene.
