Oliver Smith, 45, of Sutton with dual citizenship in Sweden and the United States, was indicted on Thursday, January 7, on one count of possession of child pornography.
Smith’s arrest, on November 24, followed a search warrant executed at his Sutton residence, which led to several seized devices. A preliminary forensic review of devices seized revealed images and videos of child pornography.
During an interview with federal agents, Smith allegedly admitted that he had downloaded child pornography upon his return to the U.S. from Sweden.
Federal authorities received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and Swedish law enforcement authorities, which led to the investigation.
The charge of possession of child pornography provides for a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, a mandatory minimum of five years and up to life of supervised release and a fine of $250,000.
