Taunton Man Arraigned on 9 Charges, Including Vehicular Homicide

WORCESTER – DeJesus Amaro was arraigned on nine charges, including vehicular homicide by negligent operation on Friday morning in Worcester Central District Court after being arrested on Thursday following a fatal accident on Rt. 20 in Auburn.

Amaro, 24, of 209 Washington St., Apt 2. in Taunton, was held on $50,000 bail, according to the Office of the Worcester County District Attorney.

Amaro is charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash after causing personal injury and death; operating a motor vehicle negligently while under the influence of drugs and causing serious injury; motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation; leaving the scene of property damage; using a motor vehicle without authority; possession of an open container of alcohol in public; unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle; marked lanes violation; speeding.

He also was arrested on two warrants from another jurisdiction.

As ThisWeekinWorcester.com reported on Thursday, Amaro had outstanding warrants and was injured in the crash. He was arrested after attempting to flee the scene of the accident and was in custody at UMass-Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

Amaro was operating a Ford Explorer when the vehicle crossed the double-yellow line on Washington St. in Auburn and struck a Toyota Tacoma and Jeep Grand Cherokee. 

The passenger in the Jeep —  Michael Robidoux, 54, of Auburn — was transported to UMass where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Jeep remains hospitalized. 

The case was continued to July 8 for a pre-trial conference.
