Worcester Man Arrested for St. John’s Cemetery Theft

WORCESTER – A 64-year-old Worcester man is under arrest after items were stolen from a Worcester cemetery.

Police responded to a report of stolen bronze plaques at St. John’s Cemetary, at 260 Cambridge St. in Worcester, on December 31. The Worcester Police Department Neighborhood Response Team led the investigation.

Officers checked scrap metal facilities in the area and recovered two of the missing plaques. They also recovered 15 various veteran grave markers.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested Arthur Theurer, 64, of Worcester, on January 2. Theurer faces charges of:

  • Receiving Stolen Property Over $1200;
  • Vandalizing a Gravestone;
  • Sale of Stolen Grave Marker; and
  • Receipt of Stolen Grave Marker.
