WORCESTER – A Worcester man received a life sentence for the second-degree murder of Joshua Lopez, 24, in 2020.
A jury in Worcester Superior Court found Leroy Thompson, Jr., 30, of Worcester, guilty of second-degree murder and reckless endangerment of a child on Aug. 8.
Thompson received a sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole after 20 years for the murder conviction, and 2.5 years on the reckless endangerment conviction. The sentences will run concurrently.
Lopez sat in the backseat of a vehicle in the Almont Avenue area when he sustained a gunshot wound. He died the following day. A minor sat inside the same vehicle during the shooting, leading to the reckless endangerment charge.
