Icy Travel Conditions Expected Thursday Morning in Worcester 2

WORCESTER – Quiet weather is expected for Wednesday afternoon with partly sunny skies expected. High temperatures will be between 40 and 45 degrees.

Wednesday Night Through Thursday: An area of low pressure is expected to track across Southern New England by Thursday morning. Plenty of moisture associated with the storm system will combine with cold air at the surface to produce snow for a while starting around midnight tonight that changes to freezing rain and sleet late tonight and then eventually to all rain during Thursday morning.

Snow is expected to overspread Central Mass. around midnight tonight. Snow is then expected to continue for a few hours after midnight tonight before milder air pushes northward. This will cause the snow to change to a sleet and rain mixture across the valleys and lower elevations of Central Mass. and to a freezing rain and sleet mixture across the Worcester hills between 4 AM and 6 AM on Thursday morning.

During Thursday morning, rain is expected across the valleys and lower elevations of Central Mass. Across the Worcester hills, freezing rain and sleet is expected during Thursday morning and this will lead to icy travel conditions for Thursday morning’s commute.

All precipitation will come to an end around midday Thursday with cloudy skies and the possibility of a passing rain shower expected during Thursday afternoon.

Snowfall amounts tonight will range from one to two inches across much of Central Mass. to two to three inches of snow accumulation along and north of Route 2.

Ice accumulations late tonight through Thursday morning will range from less than one tenth of an inch (0.10”) across the Blackstone Valley to one tenth (0.10”) to two tenths (0.20”) of an inch across the Worcester hills.

Low temperatures tonight will be near 30 degrees. High temperatures Thursday will be between 40 and 45 degrees.

Friday Through Sunday: Another high pressure system will build into the area for Friday and Saturday bringing some very cold temperatures.

Friday is expected to be sunny to partly sunny with high temperatures near 25 degrees.

Friday night will be clear and very cold with low temperatures between 4 above zero and 4 below zero.

Saturday is expected to be partly sunny and cold with high temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees.
