Today’s Weather in Worcester – Wednesday, January 22

By TWIW Staff | January 22, 2020
Last Updated: February 3, 2021

WORCESTER – Sunny to partly sunny skies are expected throughout the rest of Wednesday with high temperatures between 35 and 39 degrees.

Wednesday Night is expected to be clear and cold with low temperatures between 5 and 10 degrees.

Thursday will be sunny to partly sunny with high temperatures between 40 and 45 degrees.

Friday is expected to be partly sunny with high temperatures near 45 degrees.

Possible Long-Duration Storm For This Weekend: An area of low pressure is expected to develop on Saturday near Long Island. This low pressure system is now expected to track right across southern New England on Saturday night into Sunday. This forecast change in the forecast track from a strictly ocean track to one that takes it across southern New England is important because this means the rain/snow line will cut right across Central Mass.

Rain will overspread much of Central Mass during Saturday morning. The exception will be across the higher elevations of the Worcester hills where the precipitation will be snow.

Rain across the lower elevations and valleys of Central Mass. and snow or a rain-snow mix across the higher elevations of the Worcester hills will then continue throughout Saturday afternoon and Saturday night and it may be heavy at times.

Turning to Sunday, light rain is expected across the lower elevations and valleys of Central Mass. with light snow across the higher elevations of the Worcester hills. The rain may actually change to some light snow late Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening.

Any steady precipitation will taper off to scattered snow showers later Sunday night with scattered snow showers continuing into Monday.

It should be pointed out that any areas that do stay as all snow [higher elevations of the Worcester hills] may see significant snow accumulations from this storm & this will be something to keep an eye on.

Other Possible Storms To Keep An Eye On: The weather pattern next week into the first week of February looks active across the region.

There are three other possible storms that may impact Western and Central Mass.

The first one looks to possibly affect the area next Friday, January 31. The second storm to keep an eye on may move through around February 2nd. A third storm may then impact our area around February 6.

At this point, there is no way to tell whether any of these storms will bring us all rain, all snow or a messy mixture of wintry precipitation. Just know that I will be keeping a very close eye on each one to see how they will affect our weather.
