RIGHT NOW: Tornado Watch in Effect in Worcester County

According to the National Weather Service [NWS] Tropical Storm Isaias To Impact Southern New England This Afternoon and Early Tonight. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for northern Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.

Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to quickly track through southeast New York and western New England this afternoon, before heading into northern New England tonight. Most of the storm`s impacts will occur during about a 6 hour period from this afternoon through early tonight.

A tornado watch is in effect until 9 PM.

WORCESTER – A tornado watch is in effect until 9 PM across the state.

The National Weather Service [NWS] issued the warning just before 2 PM after a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Ashburnham moving northwest at 55 MPH.

NWS says the weather radar indicated a rotation.

The “tornadic thunderstorm” will remain over mainly rural areas of Northwestern Worcester and Northwestern Middlesex counties.

Residents in those areas are advised to take shelter, locate to a basement and stay away from windows.
